UPVC pipe installation serves as a key construction procedure for concealed water supply and drainage works in building projects. The refinement and standardization of construction details directly govern the drainage system's water conveyance efficiency, sealing and anti-leakage performance, noise reduction effect, and overall service life, and constitute a mandatory inspection item for project completion acceptance. Compared with metal pipes, UPVC drainage pipes feature low weight and convenient cutting and bonding operations, yet they differ greatly in structural rigidity and thermal expansion and contraction properties. For this reason, the entire construction process must be implemented in strict accordance with standardized technical procedures. Full-process precision control is required for all working steps, including pre-construction preparation, positioning and layout, pipe cutting, interface bonding, pipe laying, fixing and supporting, gradient adjustment, noise reduction treatment, sealing protection and final completion inspection. This effectively prevents common quality defects such as water seepage, pipeline blockage, reverse gradient, abnormal operating noise and pipe deformation.

1. Pre-Construction Preparation

1.1 Material Verification and Quality Inspection

Design Drawing Verification: Match pipe models and specifications with actual construction scenarios to ensure targeted material selection.

Indoor drainage systems adopt standard solid-wall UPVC pipes or silent spiral UPVC pipes; outdoor buried drainage projects require high-ring-stiffness and weather-resistant UPVC pipes adaptable to complex buried environments.

Visual Quality Inspection: Conduct one-by-one appearance inspection for all pipes and fittings. Qualified products shall be free of surface cracks, depressions, pinholes and structural deformation, with regular and complete fitting sockets and intact sealing accessories.

Material Mixing Prohibition: Pipes and fittings of different grades, specifications and performance parameters are strictly prohibited from mixed use to avoid hidden safety hazards for system operation.

1.2 Tool and Site Environment Preparation

Special Construction Tools: Prepare dedicated pipe cutting tools, deburring tools, PVC primer and adhesive, clean dust-free rags, matching pipe clamps and hanging brackets to ensure smooth construction.

Environmental Requirements: Keep the construction site dry, clean and dust-free. Dust, moisture and oil pollution on the construction surface shall be eliminated in advance to prevent affecting the bonding quality and structural stability of pipe interfaces.

2. Pipe Cutting and Joint Preparatory Work (Key Anti-Leakage Procedure)

Pipe cutting and interface treatment are core procedures to prevent pipeline leakage, with standardized operating standards and quality requirements specified as follows:

Construction Step

Operation Points

Quality Control Requirements

Pipe Cutting

Keep the cutting surface flat and strictly perpendicular to the pipe axis

No burrs, oblique cuts, edge chipping or irregular notches are allowed on the pipe incision

Deburring Treatment

Remove burrs on inner and outer edges of the incision, and polish sharp corners smoothly

Ensure smooth pipe insertion, avoid scratching the adhesive coating, and guarantee tight interface bonding

Surface Cleaning

Wipe the spigot and socket of pipes and fittings thoroughly with clean rags

Completely remove surface dust, moisture and oil stains to keep the bonding surface dry and clean

Adhesive Coating

Apply PVC primer first, then evenly and sufficiently coat adhesive on both bonding surfaces

Complete rapid and full one-time insertion and positioning after coating to avoid repeated plugging

Curing and Shaping

Reserve sufficient curing time for the adhesive

No twisting, pulling or displacement of pipes during curing to ensure tight and stable interface fit

3. Standardized Pipe Laying Requirements

3.1 Pipeline Gradient Control

For conventional residential building drainage pipes, the standard laying gradient is controlled at 2%–3%. Zero gradient and reverse gradient laying are strictly prohibited. A reasonable gravity gradient ensures smooth drainage, effectively prevents water stagnation, pipeline blockage and peculiar odor accumulation, and maintains the long-term unobstructed operation of the drainage system.

3.2 Pipe Alignment and Installation Accuracy

The overall installation follows the principle of horizontal and vertical alignment. Vertical drainage stacks shall be installed vertically with deviation values strictly controlled within the specification range. Horizontal drainage pipes shall be laid neatly and straightly, with unnecessary bends and detours minimized to reduce drainage resistance and negative pressure fluctuation.

3.3 Expansion Joint Installation (Applicable to High-Rise Building Systems)

UPVC pipes are prone to thermal expansion and contraction under temperature changes. The installation of expansion joints can effectively release structural stress, prevent pipe stretching and deformation, and avoid interface cracking and water leakage caused by temperature variation. The installation spacing of expansion joints shall be strictly implemented in accordance with pipe diameter parameters and industry specifications to reserve sufficient expansion allowance.

4. Pipe Fixing, Support Setting and Noise Reduction Treatment

4.1 Pipe Fixing and Support Construction

Special matching pipe clamps and hanging brackets are adopted for fixed installation. Horizontal drainage pipes shall be equipped with evenly spaced hanging supports; vertical drainage stacks shall be provided with fixed brackets at each floor. Unsupported, suspended and loose pipelines are strictly prohibited to prevent pipe displacement, vibration and deformation during operation.

4.2 Noise Reduction Measures for High-Rise Silent Drainage Systems

Fitting Optimization Selection: Replace traditional right-angle 90° elbows with long-radius bends, sweep bends, oblique tees and Y-type branch fittings. This design reduces water flow impact and air turbulence, effectively lowering drainage noise and pipeline negative pressure, and improving drainage smoothness.

Vibration and Noise Buffering Treatment: Carry out cushioning and shock absorption treatment at the positions where pipes pass through walls and floors. Isolate hard contact between pipes and building structures to eliminate vibration noise generated by water flow impact and pipeline resonance.

5. Construction Summary

The high-quality construction and long-term stable operation of the UPVC drainage system rely on a complete three-dimensional quality control system: scientific material selection + standardized construction operation + rigorous full-process inspection. From standardized material selection and life cycle cost evaluation in the procurement stage, to meticulous detail control in the installation process, and finally to perfect sealing protection and completion acceptance testing, every construction link is crucial to the long-term operational safety and structural stability of the building drainage system.
